Sometime you may experience this error while starting the apache service.

root@server [~]# /etc/init.d/httpd start
(98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80
no listening sockets available, shutting down
Unable to open logs

Solution :

Kill all the apache proceses and then check if port 80/443 is not used by any other service  using netstat command:

root@server [~]# killall -9 httpd

#root@server [~]# netstat -lnp | grep ’80?
tcp        0      0 0.0.0.0:80                  0.0.0.0:*                   LISTEN      8117/httpd

If you see any process listing then kill it.

root@server [~]# kill – 9 8117

Now try to restart an apache service.

root@server [~]# /etc/init.d/httpd restart
