Steps to Copy a Locale in WHM / cPanel

Let’s first see the use of “Copy a Locale” interface in WHM:

Whenever you want to replicate a locale which can be a standard form or non standard form then you can use an interface offered by WHM which is called as “Copy a Locale”.

Now you must be eager to know what the meaning of a Locale in a “Standard form” or in a “Non-standard form”.

So let’s see what their meanings are:

Standard Locale: A locale is called standard locale because it is a language containing data in the CLDR, which stands for: Unicode Common Locale Data Repository.

Non-standard Locale: A locale is called Non-standard locale because it is a language containing data which is not in the CLDR which stands for: Unicode Common Locale Data Repository

Now let’s see how to access “Copy a Locale” interface through WHM:

Follow the below steps:

Log in to WHM >> Navigate to “Locales” category >> Click “Copy a Locale” option >> following interface will appear:

  • Let’s see how to copy a locale into a standard locale:

Perform the following steps for copying a locale into a standard Locale:

  1. First of all select an original locale from the “Duplicate Locale” drop down menu.
  • Important note: The locale: “cPanel Snowman” and “i_cPanel_snowman is generally not used. It is used by Theme customizers and third-party developers for testing cPanel and WHM’ localization system against their modifications.
  • Now select a standard locale from the menu which you want to copy.
  • Now click ‘Duplicate” button, it will take you to a new interface.
  • Select “Click here to download” option for downloading the copy in XML format or select “Upload it here” option for editing the copy’s XML.
  • Now let’s find out how to copy a locale into a non-standard locale:

Perform the following steps, for copying a locale into a non-standard locale:

  1. First of all select an original locale from the “Duplicate Locale” drop down menu.
  • Important to note: The “cPanel Snowman” and “i_cPanel_snowman” locale is not used generally. It is used by Theme customizers and third-party developers for testing cPanel and WHM’ localization system against their modifications.
  • Now Select a Non-standard locale from the menu which you want to copy.
  • Now you need to enter a name for this copy in the appropriate boxes and it is must to prefix the name of the locale with the i_ tag because it is important to note that prefixing a name with i_ tag is a standard way of creating, identifying and working with a non-standard locale.
  • Select the required options from the menus like: Fallback Locale, Number Formatting and Character Orientation.
  • Here it is important to note that, if there is no phrase in i_ tag’s dictionary then that tag will refer to the locale which is set to Fallback for finding the phrase there.
  • Click Duplicate, it will take you to a new interface.
  • Here click “Click here to download” option for downloading the copy in XML format or you can select “Upload it here” for editing the copy’s XML.
  • It is also important to note that if the desired locale is not present then you can click “Rebuild the Locale” option for updating the list of locales.
