Limiting and Viewing the Bandwidth Usage in WHM

Limiting and Viewing the Bandwidth usage in WHM

First of all we will discuss about ’Limiting the Bandwidth Usage’ in WHM.

Limiting the Bandwidth Usage: – This option helps you in changing the already assigned Bandwidth for an account.

Bandwidth: – Any computer network or internet network, which can be small in size or large in size, is mostly used for transferring the data from one location to another. This transfer of data from one location to another is checked using data transfer rate. So a bandwidth is the term used for checking this data transfer rate at the given amount of time, of the computer network or internet network. In simple words we can say that the bandwidth tells us how fast a data can be transferred through the given network, in given amount of time.

So, always try to set appropriate bandwidth limits for each of the accounts on your server.

In this blog I have assumed that you have already been logged in to a Web Host Manager (WHM). Now let’s learn about limiting bandwidth usage for specific hosting accounts in your WHM.

First navigate to ‘Account functions’. Following interface will appear:

Now Click ‘Limit Bandwidth Usage’ option: Hosting accounts bandwidth limit cannot be exceeded when it reached, the account will stop working until either:

1.The end of the month when bandwidth usages are reset Or 2. The bandwidth limit is increased.

Every account in WHM already has a bandwidth limit as it would have been set when the account was created.

Let’s go ahead and check the bandwidth limit on one of the listed hosted accounts.

Select a domain name under account selection tab

And scroll down, click ‘limit’ button.

Here we can see that the above selected domain account has used how many Meg i.e. megabytes of bandwidth. It has used 102 MB of Bandwidth. It will also display the already assigned bandwidth limit to that account in Megabytes. Here you can see that the already assigned bandwidth is 10000MB.

Let’s go ahead and increase this accounts bandwidth limit, by typing a new value in ‘Bandwidth limit’ text box. Then click ‘Change’ button. I am not going to change this limit, if you want you can change it by typing a new value in ‘Bandwidth limit’ text box and then click ‘Change’.

That’s it! The bandwidth limit for this account has been changed.

Now click the ‘View Bandwidth Usage’ link here.

‘View Bandwidth Usage’: – A new interface will appear. From here you can see the bandwidth used by each individual account in WHM.

As we already discussed about the definition of the Bandwidth – Any computer network or internet network, which can be small in size or large in size, is mostly used for transferring the data from one location to another.

This tool monitors this using HTTP, FTP, SMTP and POP3/IMAP.

As shown in following interface you can see a table containing a month sorted by, bandwidth information which is easy to read. There are following columns:

  • User — It displays the account name.
  • Domain-It is the main domain name of the account.
  • Xfer — It displays the consumed bandwidth.
  • Limit — It displays the limit on bandwidth consumption for a particular user.
  • Usage — It displays the percentage of used bandwidth that the system allocated to a user

The amount of bandwidth used is shown in the columns 🙁 xFer) and (limit)

We can click ‘Last Month [Dec 2018]’ option.

To see how much bandwidth each account used last month.

Click ‘Show Units in Megabytes’ option and it will show the bandwidth usage and limits in MB instead of GB. Thus Bandwidth limits and usages are now shown in Megabytes.

You now know how to manage the bandwidth limits for your hosting accounts and how to check current and past bandwidth usages.
