Introduction to Web Disk in cPanel: Part 5

In continuation of our previous discussion Disk Usage {Introduction to Disk Usage in cPanel: Part4}, in this tutorial, we are going to learn about Web Disk Tool. This tool is used for creating an additional Web Disk account to manage, navigate, upload, and download the files on your web server. Web Disk account directories exist relative to your account’s home directory.

The home icon () signifies your home directory.

When you select this option, you will see the following window:

Here you can see details about your Main Web Disk Account which is your Home Directory.

At the time of  creating  Additional Web Disk Account :

  1. You are required to enter the Username when you enter a username, you can select a domain or subdomain from the menu if your account includes more than one domain or subdomain.
  2. You are required to enter a password. Enter and confirm the new password in the appropriate text boxes, which is generated using Password Generator as it is mandatory to enter a strong password.
  3. Once you enter the Username and password, Enter the Web Disk account’s home directory in the Directory text box.
  4. It is also important to set the permissions to the web disk account.
  5. You can assign Read-Write or Read -Only permissions. By default Read – Write permission is assigned.
  6. Then if you use Microsoft Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows  10, select the “Enable Digest Authentication” checkbox and Click “Create. A new interface will appear.
  • To return to the main interface, click Go Back.
  • To navigate to setup instructions for your new Web Disk account, click Access Web Disk.

When you click on “Create” button then you will receive a message regarding the successful creation of an additional Web Disk Account.

There is one more option provided to you for – Managing the Web Disk Accounts.

Here you are required to enter the web disk account and then you will see information regarding that account.

Account: The Web Disk account username.

Directory: The Web Disk account’s assigned directory and related actions.

Actions: Use the links in this column to perform the following actions:

  • Configure Client Access
  • Enable Digest Authentication
  • Change Password
  • Delete
  • To change the account’s permissions

Note: – When you change the usernames of Web Disk accounts that use Digest Authentication, you must re-enable it. The /etc/digestshadow file stores the usernames of Web Disk accounts that use Digest Authentication in a password hash. When you change the account username, the system removes the password from the file.
