Installation of SSL on Your Hostname & Services via WHM

 In this blog we are going to learn how to install SSL on your Hostname and Services via WHM. It is a type of SSL that secures access to various services on the server like FTP. Webmail,  cPanel etc.

Important Note:

  1. For securely accessing these services securely, clients need to use their server’s hostname and the port #.
  2. For installing SSL via WHM, you will require Root access to the server.
  3. The SSL certificate is thus installed mostly on VPS or Dedicated Server clients.
  4. If there are clients on reseller or shared hosting plans, need to contact support team who will help you with this type of installation.

Step 1:  Login to WHM. We are in the WHM home interface. Scroll down to “Install a SSL Certificate and Setup the Domain” under the SSL/TLS” section.

Step 2: Scroll down and you will be provided with some empty fields where you will have to paste the SSL Cert, RSA Key, and the CA bundle, each of these empty fields are labeled accordingly.

Once you fill in all these empty fields, you can click on “Install”.

Important Note: The RSAkeyusedmust be the RSA key you generated along with theCSR, which you used to order the actual SSL certificate with your SSL provider.

Step 3: It is important that you copy/paste everything from the certificate code.

 Important: While filling in the information in the empty field labeled Ca bundle, will receive the bundle which was emailed to you along with the SSL Certificate Provided. For avoiding any complications you must install it with the certificate. It consists of 3 different keys and it looks like this:
Step 4: Once you have completed the steps 1,2, and 3, the SSL certificate has been officially installed onto your hostname. There is one more step that needs to be completed.

Step 5: In this step you can install SSL Certificate on various services on the server. Go to “Manage Service SSL Certificates”, check all the services listed on your server. Like Calendar, cPanel, Webmail, WHM services etc. Also enter the certificates into the boxes provided as the same previous way.

This step will help you to assign SSL certificate to various services like Calendar, Dovecot Mail server, Exim, FTP server, cPanel, Webmail, and WHM services etc.

Step 6: Click “Install and “Proceed” to restart cpsrvd.
